Top Twelve Organic Foods

Co-Author Kim Noble
I know alot of people that say they wish they could eat more organic food but it just doesn’t fit into their budget.  I used to be one of those people–that is until I actually did price comparisons at several stores and discovered that buying organic food doesn’t have to break the bank.  I buy our food from three local markets: Trader Joe’s, Raley’s and Whole Foods. I shop with the seasons and buy food from the bins (like rice, beans, dried fruit) to save on packaging costs  and I am always looking out for sales.  I didn’t know this until recently, but Whole Foods has a flier called the whole deal they release once every couple months, loaded with valuable information such as recipes, health tips, items on sale in their store and COUPONS!   And we are also incredibly fortunate to live in an area with a local farmer’s market that is open every Saturday morning with fresh veggies and fruit.

According to thedailygreen and Dr. Mercola, here is a list of the top 12 foods to eat organic;

  1. peaches

  8. kale
  9. leafy greens
  10. grapes
  11. carrots
  12. pears

We also save money by eating vegetarian meals several times per week.  When we do eat meat, we buy organic, free range meat.  We feel better knowing that the animals we are consuming haven’t been injected with added hormones or antibiotics and the animals are given organic feed and not feed laden with pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
